Just received the latest catalog for the next Jacquier's auction. I'm very excited because he's the king of Gallic Empire coinage in auctions. Wondering if the prices will go crazy... I'm old school and really enjoy the smell of paper, the sound of the pages when you turn them; I can't feel that on my computer ! There will be coins for every collectors. GREEK: FLAVIANS: GALLIENUS' ZOO FANS: GALLIC RULERS (!): And two coins I bought from P.F. Jacquier lately: super dealer and exceptional services. And some paper catalogs from 2021: AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVE THESE PAPER CATALOGS ? PLEASE SHOW ME YOURS !
Nice catalog and good luck in the auction in a couple of weeks. I received two packages from Europe on Monday. One was a lot of 16 scale weights and a few Pb seals. The other was a book on scale weights in the Geneva museum that I ordered about a month ago. The two packages go well together. I ordered the book from Jacquier on MA Shops. As a bonus, he shipped me his auction 46 catalog that offers 736 LRBs (253 to 505 AD). The catalog is impressive. Now I need to find someone who really wants one of these.
I use it a lot. It is doubly good, it is accurate and was a Christmas gift from my son who was working in a metal shop at the time.
I recently got the encyclopedic-size catalog from Roma, for the upcoming live auction in October. I just love the scent of the newly printed pages. I guess it is almost like a new car scent. As usual, the catalog is gorgeous, heavy, with wonderful photos. I'll probably bid on a lot or two, but knowing that I have a snowball's chance in you-know-where of having a real chance of success.
I love the look of the catalogues. I only have one that was given to FFIVN and I at the last Baltimore Whitman show from Harlan J. Berk It is filled with beautiful pictures. I am not fancy enough to get any others unfortunately.
I have been a fan a paper catalogs for decades. I wrote, but am no loner updating, a site on contents of many of the catalogs from major auction firms: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/catalogs/ and a second page organized by collecting theme: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/catalogs/Themes.html I separate out outstanding catalogs by theme and keep them in magazine boxes on my shelves, easy to access. If, for example, I am thinking about Turkoman figural bronzes, I can look through the catalogs listed here to see what excellent collections look like: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/catalogs/Turkoman.html
I really enjoy reading auction catalogs..I get about 20 catalogs a year..I wish I had at least one copy of Daniel Frank Sedwick or Triton catalogs, but they are, in my opinion, expensive...
I did receive complementary copies of the recent CNG & Roma catalogs. Sorry about the poor photo quality, I did these free-hand in diminished sunlight . Both companies have spectacular offerings as usual, & both are offering modestly priced coins that won't send you to the poor house .
