There are lots of people altering coins as souvenirs or to sell to the gullible as "collectibles". Generally their numismatic value is the "melt" value of the coin metal if it is gold or silver, and zero if it isn't. There are collectors of "tokens", and some books about them, but the type of cent (it's not a "penny" unless it's pre-decimal British or Commonwealth coinage) you have isn't even considered a token by most folks.

i just have to tell you guys

i spray painted a couple of pennies silver and put them in a vending machine, just to see who would find them. it keeps these penies in the numismatic community and attracts the people who find these frauds to our society!!!!!!! (the paint comes off in regular water)

I have a seemingly unplated zinc penny and for all intents and purposes seems to be completely normal

It probably is completely normal. Unplated zinc cents are not really uncommon. Many error collectors do collect them but unless they are high grade examples they don't generally have a value of more than a couple dollars.

This is a very high quality coin I think... I don't really see any defects, but then again I'm not exactly a prime example of a coin collector or coin dealer here. You can find the pic of it here on my deviantART page if you'd like
