Well, it certainly seems everyone got their 2005s out of their system. From what I see, the last post for 2005 was coin_nut's "Yesterday at 6:45 AM," which I'll interpret to mean Friday, September 3, at 645 PT. Considering that now it is Saturday, September 4 at 1851 PT, I think it is time to move on to 2004. Yes?

I will start with some coins from a place that has seen a lot of killing, warfare, and other plain stupidity in the not to distant past. Nagorno-Karabakh, or the Republic of Artsakh in some circles.

2005 was a year where I got a bunch of comemoratives. I could post a bunch of relatively uninteresting coinage from that year or every other until 1960 too but I normally just pick some that I think are of historic significance or I just like. When a thread like this happened on numista the date moved forward every 24 hours and everyone posted around 1-4 coins per day. I dont want to force this system here but in my opinion having one year open for 2-5 days should be enought and I hope that this thread might appeal to more people once we reach a specific date (on numista the date was 1945 when more people started to post coins)
    Anyways here some 2004:

I think it was PaddyB and I who came up with the idea of restarting this thread. We have been discussing it, and each agree to donate a prize coin to the winner. Neither of us have yet chosen what coin to donate as a prize, so it will remain a mystery, perhaps forever? Here is part of what curtisimo originally posted back in 2017 when this thread began. We can still go by the same ground rules and keep on having fun with this thread. I talked with two of our esteemed moderators and they seem to be in agreement.

    *****************************************************************

    1. I will post a coin in the OP from 2017 to get us started.

    2. Posters can then post a coin from the SAME YEAR or PREVIOUS YEAR! For example the next coin played can be 2017 or 2016 and so on…

    3. No skipping years!

    4. The coin should be datable to a specific year by some mark or characteristic. It doesn’t necessarily need to be minted with a written date as long as it can be confidently dated to a year. No date ranges (Ex.: a coin datable to 1630-1636 would not be usable). Feel free to share with us anything interesting about the dating of the coin in your post.

    5. Eastern and other coins that don’t use the Gregorian calendar are fair play even if the year doesn’t align perfectly as long as they are datable to ONE year in that calendar. At the bottom of the post just tell us the closest equivalent date in the Gregorian calendar. (Ex.: 1834/5)

    6. Counter stamps and bankers marks are fair play as long as they are dated.

    7. At the bottom of each post please tell us the country and date of your coin.

    8. Once the thread has been inactive for 30 days (I.E. no new coins played) the member (other than me) who played the last coin with the earliest date that falls within the rules will win the OP coin!

    Some Guidelines for play:

    · US coins are welcome! However, since this is the world coins forum I would like to see as many entries from our world coin collectors as possible. In that spirit I suggest that we try not to flip the date more than every other year with a US coin. However, if the thread gets stuck for a day or so all bets are off and let’s see those American beauties ;)

    · Try to post one coin at a time but feel free to post multiple coins.

    · If the winner chooses so they may elect another member to receive the OP coin on their behalf.

    · If I made any mistakes or omissions in the above rules we will play it by ear and see where this goes :artist::happy:

2004 CO 200 p.jpg PaddyB came up with an idea, and I concur, to add a 24 hour rule, which is kind of what we have been doing. If the thread sits idle for 24 hours, OK to progress (regress?) back a year. Sound good? Any comments?

Sounds good to me. My only comment is that if do something stupid, such as post a coin that doesn't meet the requirements, please let me know. I'm prone to making mistakes.
