I picked this coin up today not in the best shape ever but I have a thing for other countries coins I love the way they are made everything about them just curious if this thing is worth letting some dust grow on it.

If you mean holding on to it in hopes the value will increase, my vote would be "no".

    See what others say.

Having lived in the UK I would say the 50 pence is fairly standard. If you have a child or a curious young relative I would give it to him or her to promote the hobby.

Lots of them out there Bentley! Very common and easy to obtain!!! A nice gift for a youngster or to use as an example of British coins! I have a few coins from there!

Bentley, you can try collecting all the denominations from the newer years. When you have all of them, their reverse designs form the Shield of Arms.

Yours is the common basic design. The Royal Mint has also issued the 50 pence coin with many different commemorative reverses since the early 1990s.

1997 is by far the most common date of the current-size 50p and is worth its face value unless uncirculated.
