ALMOST had me stumped but here is approximately what you have there. Antoninus Pius Æ Drachm of Alexandria, Egypt, The letters on the obverse are a combination of Latin and Greek so it's hard for me to find the exact inscription.Something like this AVT KT AI ADP ANTONINO C C EB EVC, laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right,.Minted somewhere between 140-161 AD. Of course it looks like it was used for jewelry or decoration and has no reverse left...so it's difficult to say. Anyway,if you go here: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/antoninus_pius/i.html it's somewhere between Milne 1681 and 2421 (lol),bottom of the page..sheesh! Where's Mike Marotta?
Hi every one I'm new on these boards, they seem nice and welcoming Talking about this "coin" above, I would be surprised this is a coin. I'd rather say a medal, made on purpose for jewellery as writen by Mikjo0. It's too round, and the portrait definetly not a known portrait of any emperor (in my opinion of course) Cucumbor
aacoins, I was looking through a Roman Coin website and stumbled across this picture. The first thing I noticed was that it was exactly the same unusual color as your coin and secondly,it is Antonius Pius as well. This makes me think yours is authentic, even though heavily damaged. The one pictured is selling for $59.00.
Cant say for sure, but I belive this is a copy or forgery. I cant see any trace of any image on the reverse. Also the image I havnt seen before, also too well centred and even for a copper coin that ive seen.
might never have been intended to be fake - it looks like it was a decoration piece. Maybe a button or some sort of jewelry made to look like an ancient coin. unfortunately, even if it were real, any numismatic value would have been removed when the alterations were done.
