Darryl, that looks really nice and the paper type 'transparent vellum' sounds interesting as well. Hope you can post a higher res picture once you get a chance to scan or image this piece.

Also related, I have an update on another ABNCo piece I mentioned in this thread I was considering buying, the 1989 ABNCo Archive Series (portfolio). I requested some more images from the Seller and learned it was complete with the portfolio case and ID cards for the plates, so I made a reduced price offer and got the set for a fair price. It's in the mail and I can't wait to see these in person. It will make a great companion to the ABNCo book I just got and am reading.

Nice! Some of those souvenir cards are really nice. I just picked up one at the the FUN show this past weekend.

Almost picked up this error note earlier...

...but it went for a little more than I was willing to pay since I don't collect errors.

    Darryl,
You have a nice ABNCo. advertisement portfolio sheet ! What a great pickup !
    Congrats .
Added: Daryll you might have something completely different from what I have described above "advertisement Portfolio"....I noticed that you described it as being "Transparent".Can you get a image that displayes the transparency of the sheet. You may have something much rarer then a standard Advertisement Portfolio sheet used to display to potental customers their engraving work ability.
Maybe someone else has seen these and can describe their usage ?

Okay, mix up in the world of eBay. When these auctions ran there were two pieces I was interested in. I thought I knew when they ended. To my surprise that night when I logged in I had just missed the end of the 1st auction. Oops! I won the 2nd auction a few minutes later. Move ahead 8 days. Today I received an envelope from the seller. The piece inside was the from the 1st auction that I missed the end of. Bigger Oops! I have sent the seller an email with contact information. I really like the 2nd piece better so I hope it works out that I get it! That said I will post close-ups of the 1st for your enjoyment :) while I wait to work it out. I will post them a little at a time over the next day or two. I am about to go out so this is all you get tonight. Sorry - but I am sure you will appreciate this! It has beautiful detail!!! Enjoy ~ Darryl

ABNCo: 1893 World's Columbian Exposition Ticket (Indian Chief)

I also just received a (new to my collection) ABNCo piece.

This is one of several designs of admission tickets from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1st May to 30th October, 1893.

This one is obviously raw, a bit rough with some blue-ish spots that resemble ink droplets and some other blackish marks on the reverse that look like ink transferred from rubbing against something. Overall it's in fair shape considering its age.

    The ticket measures: 3.75" x 2.25" (96mm x 56mm)

A small reproduction of the Indian design can be found in The Engraver's Line by Gene Hessler on page 274.

When I started reading up on ABNCo., I was really fascinated to find that I could acquire examples of their amazing engraved work without being limited to notes and currency. Much of this I learned through these threads and the images posted by you guys. So when I came across this vignette I was really struck by the 3/4 angle portrait. I actually admireall of the others as well. I really wanted to have one of this design to study in hand and will keep looking for one in more pristine condition, perhaps even go for a graded example if that proves to be where the best quality tickets are.

A few more images of this admission ticket.

The 'booklet' image was found online to show the array of designs.

No idea, I love the detail around the outside though. Dimensions are 1 inch high by 1.25 inches wide. I reallllly hope I get the one I won as I like the images even more than I like these.

I really like this one, just pure geometric patterning. I especially like the four big heart/spade shapes on the outer ring. Seems like a heart-shape on the outside, then reduces nearly to a spade-shape in a kind of optical illusion. Also the other outer ring designs, esp. the five consecutive shapes on the bottom look almost like clover-leafs (clubs). This nearly has a playing card theme. Really nice to see.

Very nice Krispy, could you imagine the talent the engraver or for that matter the counterfeiter would have to have to reproduce that vignette ! That's why the security engraver is at the top of his craft.
