    My favorite Cilician coin is this one from Seleucia ad Calycadnum. Check out this anguipedal monster in a scene from the gigantomachy?! Cool, huh?!

    Rev: ϹЄΛЄΥΚЄ-ΩΝ ΤΩ Π|ΡΟϹ Κ-ΑΛV|ΔΝ, Athena advancing right, brandishing spear, holding shield, attacking serpent-footed giant hurling stone with right hand.

    When the die-engraver carved the letters, metal was pushed to the edge of each letter, creating a raised outline of each letter which caused the depressions when impressed into the flan. It's a very common phenomenon if you look for it.
