Okay, I gotta ask. Sorry. How'd that Republic of Mexico get there? Post #7982? We had either Philippines or 1944. Did I miss something?

In a poor attempt to follow up coin_nut's sweet rupee, I will post this 1945 (year 12) Manchurian (or Manchoukuo) fen. It's pretty interesting but poorly struck. I would have to guess if struck any better it would be destroyed. It's supposedly made of magnesite fiber, but I don't fully understand. Numista (see https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces22469.html) states "magnesite fiber," but if you google magnesite, you get this explanation: "Magnesite, the mineral magnesium carbonate (MgCO3), a member of the calcite group of carbonate minerals that is a principal source of magnesium." So I'm failing to grasp the "fiber" aspect.

Sorry, I didn't even notice that. I was at school and I was finding pictures of the 50 centavos coin to post but got distracted and started a nice conversation with a classmate about coin collecting. The page didn't reload so I didn't know another coin was posted. Whoops. :wacky:

It was supposed to be after post #7980 though.

We all make mistakes on here, and I find it best to just keep on as best you can rather than go making someone wrong. I recently received 2 of these coins, made in China whilst occupied by the Japanese. 1942 China 5 fen. One for you, Muzyck? Aluminum, EF45 or so.

I should have figured you would have one (or more). What is the story about the 31 year? is that MGY or what calendar?

Good question. I checked KM for a clue and the possible answer is that the "Puppet Emperor" under the assumed name of K'ang Te was previously the last emperor of China - Hsuan T'ung (1909-11). Add 31 to 1909 and that would put you close to the correct date. Still off by a year or two. That is just a guess though.

Weimar Germany and 1927 with this three reichsmark piece commemorating 100 years of the city of Bremerhaven. One of maybe three slabbed coins I own.
