Lanz is currently selling this Elymais tetradrachm for a million euros: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/303967987438?hash=item46c5e766ee:g:PoMAAOSwpMpZ870N It's quite a mark-up!
Looks like it may have been tooled too. Either way, it's ebay Lanz, which is always a "Red Flag" and best to walk away.
So he failed to sell it for $9-$12k, so now he’s trying his luck for a million euros? Lol Yes, I’ve heard too many bad stories about Lanz that I’ll keep away, even from something as enticing as this bargain-priced coin!
..i always figure they don't really want to sell the coin when asking a ridiculous price..on ebay i have some coins in my watch list that's been there more than 15 years..
I heard he is thinking about retirement if he sells it... so maybe we can all contribute (10,000 members) for a small amount, buy the coin and get rid of him !
I paid 9 euro for my Elymais coin, with Lanz factor of 100 , it must be worth now 900 euro. any takers ? and I offer free shipment worldwide
I know little of the big picture when it comes to the ancient scene, but even I know to check the seller. Lanz is one of the many I don't touch on ebay. Also, @GregH - loving the Prince quote on your profile. I love him.
That is a beautiful looking coin, but I'm with @Mat, it looks "off". Anyone question it's authenticity??
I think it might be authentic but the obverse especially does look manipulated. Oh, and as for the price, obviously it's just a mind game. Theres a lot of psychology in pricing. Higher price = higher perceived value. This though, won't work. Certainly will have a lot of views on the listing though because who hasn't looked up yachts, and other $1 Mil.+ purchases just for fun? Thats why 'Supreme' can sell these underwear for 40 dollars - and they sell out near immediately. The mint plays the same game. You can afford to lose a few customers if you can milk the remaining customer base of more.
Before eBay changed their listing mechanics (now almost everything is good-till-cancelled), you would often get charged a full final value fee for ending a listing early. If you had some an item on Craigslist, or no longer wanted to sell it, if you ended the listing you'd get charged 10% by eBay. So the workaround was to increase the price to something absurd to guarantee that nobody would buy it - and then you wait for the listing to expire and you don't relist. This could be Lanz forgetting that eBay no longer charges a fee for ending listings early.
