The fraction doesn't look right to me as well as the placement of the 1 in the date. Please prove me wrong. LOL
Steve, your pic is the 1806 C-03 from the Missouri Cabinet, lot 85, sold by the Goldbergs 26Jan 2014 for $32,200 (incl juice), graded Net F15 (PCGS VF35). Here is the Goldberg's pic of that coin.
The counterfeit uses the reverse from the 1804 C-6; there is a whole "family" of these with a common reverse and different dates. I wrote a fairly popular Coin Week article on these at: https://coinweek.com/counterfeits/struck-counterfeit-coins-a-family-of-struck-fake-half-cents/
And the hits just keep on coming... Another of the "family" listed by HiBid: https://hibid.com/lot/98111686/1807...q1KNQpMmlBrAD8udlhsDCgPP3pCEGSenY-zuBUjvOy8Ho
That guy has been trying to sell that one for months, as well as a few others that he has a ridiculous opening bid for. I thought the reverse was similar.
Weaster Auctions (hibid@auctionflex.com)To:you Details Sorry for any issues but we have removed this item from the current auction. Consignor plans on having the coin graded at it will appear at a later date. I told the guy he should save his money and read the article. I sent link also.
It strikes me that all of this publicly-shared information exposing fakes is a really wonderful resource for people trying to do it better, next time!
