1936 Doubled die penny

    Still trying to learn. Hopefully I got this right. Just wanted to get an opinion on this coin.
    It looks like doubling on liberty and the date. Is this actual doubling or a worn out die.
    I looked at Wexlers and it does have a listing that's a lot like this one. Fri Aug 27 12-24-06.jpg Thanks in advance

    I believe that's a Die Deterioration issue.

    I’ll add some machine damage. The shelflike appearance of the devices suggests a wobble occurred during coining.

    Worn die would be correct.

    Hi Tom.

    I will nitpick a bit here- but only with the intent of helping you both ID coins, and getting more important and valuable information from members here.

    Wexler's will have a LOT of coins that 'looks' like it, and this is mostly because the Lincoln cent design has changed little in the years of use. Typically, if you feel one is a match, knowing the WDDO-??? number would allow everyone to take a close look and see on their own computers.

    The information above is correct, this isn't a doubled die but keep looking. it took me a very long time to find one. Once I did it became easier.
