You seem to have missed the whole point. The point is someone else has to pay when you cancel bids. It’s like the rent cdc hold. Great for people who rent but extreme cost the to owner of the property. IM NOT MAKING A POLITICAL POINT

My point is when you behave badly and reneg on an agreement someone else usually loses money. It’s important to take in the whole picture which I believe you have failed to do. If you don’t like auctions stay away it’s that simple.

why would you work for people who are as dishonest as you say auctions are?

okbustchaser I may be old but I still appreciate a pretty bust Supporter

Prices can and do fluctuate based on when/where an item is sold. For example, I can buy a Coke from the local 7-11 for a buck, or I can spend 8 bucks of the same Coke at an NFL football game. It's up to me to decide if the value of the Coke to me is worth the premium based on location/time.

Where are you confused as to what I already wrote and posted that specifically answered this? I am only asking because I don't see need to repeat it again. Do you want another reference on auction house psychology, economic theory or the law?
Because I posted specifically now on all those issues. You either accept them or not. I will just repeat only that banning someone from all auctions is an extreme reaction, probably proposed by someone in a position where they exploit shoppers in auctions using these methods.

And I will repeat that auction houses want the benefits of selling on an open market without the risk of investing or holding real inventory, to deal with real estate, retail marketing, warehousing stock, or to deal with consumer warranties etc. Pish Posh.

Correct and try to selling a bottle of coke for $5.00 in the middle of a pandemic or a hurraicaine, for example, is just ONE of many illegal acts you can do in retail selling.

Never, they sell the to next highest bidder.

If it is so simple then you should have no problem just eliminating the practice and then folks like the OP won't feel shanghaied. That is a LOT less radical than banning someone from all auctions for life.

I’ll end our discussion with agreeing to disagree people should take responsibility for their actions if you can’t act like a responsible adult don’t participate in adult activities

another mantra... This is not about adult behavior, but marketing tactics by auction houses designed to exploit common human weakness. And even so, that is still not a reason to ban someone from ALL auctions FOREVER.

That is just tossing insults about, frankly. By all means though, if you can't substantiate something and throw nasty pronouncements on a perfect stranger such as the OP, you might well have some resistance. The OP did nothing more than react to being manipulated and his behavior is understandable in the context and in fact common.

That is not just wrong, but it is a personal attack.

Yeah - using an evidence based discussion backed by actual evidence and study is proof positive that it must be "Ruben". Instead, we should just all agree to throw the OP out of all auctions...

I will also remind you that when this thread heated up, I was very kind and aksed if the response seemed a bit radical, and the proponts just proceded to DOUBLE DOWN on the proclamation the OP should never be allowed in any auctions again. It is cruel, means spirited flat out unfriendly.

@cplradar you totally fail to understand the commerce being conducted in an auction. Under no circumstance whatsoever is it a retail transaction. You keep referencing laws pertaining to retail when they are two totally different transactions. The auction house is just like a realtor that keeps no inventory. Or a stock broker that keeps no inventory. An auction house is a broker to a transaction that puts a seller and buyer together.

If the buyer is unable to comprehend the rules and guidelines of the sale then they shouldn't be getting involved. I don't fully understand the investments of options or derivatives, so I avoid them. Know your limitations and venture where you are knowledgeable and comfortable.

All I’ll say without engaging anyone is that any bidder that cancels a winning bid from an auction house should be banned from bidding again. It absolutely hurts the seller if it needs to be relisted and the under bidder basically never believes that it wasn’t shill bidding. On high value items this can be a big hit to the seller as people will wonder what was wrong with the first auction etc. Houses will allow bid mistakes to be retracted to an extent if contacted immediately which sucks it happened but is fine for all parties.

ebay sellers would be smart to block any. Udder that cancels a bid as well.
