Lately I heard rurmors that banks in New York aren't going to order the two dollar bill and have it for general circulation. What is happening with this bill? I like it even though I don't see it anymore.

    from the bep

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing proudly presents the 2010 $2 Single Note Collection. This collection features one Series 2003A $2 note from each of the 10 available Federal Reserve Banks (excluding Minneapolis and Kansas City Districts). Each note features a serial number beginning with "2010xxxxD" and is protected by a clear, acid-free polymer sleeve in an attractive folder representative of the corresponding Federal Reserve District.

The BEP will release the 10 Federal Reserve notes in two installments, beginning with New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Richmond and Atlanta on January 7, 2010. The second installment will feature the Federal Reserve Banks of Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas and San Francisco on March 25, 2010.

You don't see it any more? Did you ever see it?

Maybe the reason you don't see it is because you have to ask for it. I get them from my bank but I have to ask them if they have any 2's. They most always do and I've even received some crisp 1976 bills.

9roswell is cutting and pasting a blur from the BEP website where they offer collectible sheets and sets as his blurb states. If you want some to spend ..just ask at your bank ..happy spending with the deuces

I've started getting them from my bank too. I plan on spending some of them and keeping the better ones for my collection. I even found a star note the other day in the same group I received from my bank.
For me, it is the most interesting dollar bill out there.

    it said nothing about sheets.
it said "one Series 2003A $2 note from each of the 10 available Federal Reserve Banks"
including New York so they must still be making them.

I suspect the Federal Reserve banks use bricks of $2 bills to prop open doors and stuff like that.

Dump the $1 bill in favor of a $1 coin and I think the $2 bill will circulate.

Of course, that makes too much sense to ever happen. Realistically, they should probably consider making a $2 coin as well; there are plenty of examples worldwide of coins with that kind of face value and more.

In any event, when I visited the Fort Worth BEP about four or five years back, they were printing some $2 bills on one of the presses. I still don't know where they circulate (in contrast, dollar coins have built-in uses as postal and transportation tokens), but they're out there.

I've only seen them circulate at racetracks and some strip clubs.

Where did you hear your rumors? I'm still curious/looking for a source of how this came about, we were discussing this last week in this thread also:

    NY district $2 canceled?
