I am posting a scan of a 1924s buffalo nickel I have. The toning is real dark. I do not know if that reduces the value or not? I have read that the 1924's had weak dies. This coin seems to be a pretty good strike for this particular year. Anybody have a idea of what the grade is?

Can you get a bigger photo??????
My first guess would be that this coin is circulated that that is why its dark....not toning but more of the wear and dirt from circulation...but since the photo is sooooo small I can't be sure.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd probably say VG.

Speedy, yes click on the photo for larger size.
CoinOKC, I was thinking vg or F-12 being some of the horn shows and the rim seems to be intact.
As far as the dark color, it is a circulated coin so I do not know if its toning or dirt So that might drop it down a grade. But the scan makes it look a bit worse than it really is.

    Thanks for your input,

I would go VG...sure the horn is there but the dark what ever it is takes it down...since its a harder date you might get a little more than VG price

    Hi All,
Having played with a metal detector for many years, I feel strongly that the coin spent some time underground and was found by a detectorist. It is worse than tarnish. IMHO, it lowers the worth of the coin.

Even though the definition is there, the "tarnish" (or whatever) on the coin distracts mightily. I wouldn't go over VG-10.
