There she is in all her glory...1 year of watching and waiting later, this highly important book is finally mine! Created as part of a private print run of 250 for friends and family members, this book has come to be the leading work on the subject matter of Palaeologan coinage! Here are the Byzantine reference books I normally use. Dumbarton oaks volume V is great as well and I will be picking up a copy eventually. I have a library loaned version currently which allows me to save a bit of money As for ID help, I was hoping Bendall’s book might have the answer to these two mystery basilikon fractionals: This coin, based on my own research, appears to be a 1/8 basilikon (tornese) of Andronikos II. The emperor is shown seated on a backed throne holding a sword across his lap. The obverse shows a winged patriarchal cross This appears to be a 1/4 Basilikon fractional. It shows a military saint with a sword and the winged emperor Andronikos II (III?) with a trilobate scepter and globus cruciger. Alas, PCPC did not have these listed.
If you haven't seen it, DOC is available online. Here is volume V-- https://www.doaks.org/resources/publications/books/catalogue-of-the-byzantine-coins-in-the-dumbarton
@The Trachy Enjoyer Congratulations! That is stunning. I've searched for that book, for the past 5 months, with no success. It's amazing, that such an important book, has so few copies. It's nice to see a fellow CoinTalker, who is also very interested in Byzantine coins, acquire it, after a long search. It looks like, it's in pretty good shape. You have a nice collection of books, on late Byzantine coins. In your 3rd photo, I have 2 of those books. 1. The Later Palaeologan Coinage, by Bendall 2. Late Byzantine Coins 1204 - 1453, by Lianta They are both good books. And like @Victor_Clark mentioned in his post #2 above, I have PDF copies of all of the Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine books. However, I imagine, that the photos of the coins, are clearer, in the hardcopies of the books. Is that so? Well, that gives me some hope, that I may eventually, find the book also.
I am geeeen with envy, but happy for you. I sure would like to find it as well. I have all but your new one. I acquired my DOC volumes about 15 years ago. I purchased Hendy's solo volume of "COINAGE AND MONEY IN THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE 1081-1261" published in 1969 when it was deaccessioned from the Mount Angel monestary's library in Mt. Angel,Oregon. The DOC was a hard pill to swallow but I washed it down with a beer...and was rewarded twice.
