I posted a picture of this in another thread but I'm hoping to get some help figuring out what this is. I assumed Japanese but the characters around the date (11) don't match any emperors that I find a reference to. So I know it's Asian with Chinese/Japanese characters and a denomination of 5. I haven't been able to find anything that looks like this. Any ideas? japan 5 sen.jpg

All the sources on the internet seem to indicate this is actually made of some type of fiber. If so it's not how I expected it to be.

I don't know what the chemical composition of the coin is. Most references that I am aware mention that its fiber. Its still a pretty neat coin and worth more than a few dollars.

The Chinese used to call it paper coin because this coin is not pretty when it gets soaked in water.
