I am NOT sending it in or dipping it in acetone. but take a look at this 1912 S liberty head nickel some looks doubled but not going there officially lol Do you have one and is yours doubled like this? Just curious.
I don’t see any real doubling. Maybe because it’s 93* out there and I’m almost done mowing 7 acres that was 9” high. My eyes are not focusing to well at the moment. I see a nice looking 1912-S Liberty Nickel that shows some wear.
thought so, just wanted too know if others have the same doubling on their nickel. I have one 20 cent piece with the date doubled just like this. Kinda guessed it was like the poormans '55 cent. fun to look at but worthless lol
I would say your 20¢ piece has a Re-punched Mintmark if it is the only place to show doubling. Is the date doubled like the mintmark ?
5 of the 10 1875 S rev dies have repunched mintmarks. This one, rev J, is the most extreme (sometimes called the 1875 $ variety due to the separation of the serifs). This reverse is only seen on the BF-16 variety, It has a misplaced 5 in the dentils below the date, comes with an extensive series of die cracks on the rev. It is also seen with many different amounts of die rotation. At least 9 different rotation amounts varying from 10 to 80 degrees are known.
