I agree on the Acetone bath. To much damage to pay to have it graded. Serious case of acne on face.

I can't give a fair opinion about the acetone bath, except to say if I tried it I'd probably ruin the coin.

I'm on the fence about submitting for grading. Several have recently sold for a lot more than I would expect on ebay, so maybe it's a good idea. A PCGS F15 example sold for $250 last week and coins graded G06 have been selling for anywhere from $120-$160. With that in mind (without knowing what you paid), I think submitting for grading might be a good idea.

Yes to the bath, no to the TPG. Clean it, seal it, show it. You are the coin's best TPG, in my opinion. Good luck with your decision.

Acetone is one of the safest cleaning agents you could employ, John. You could leave the coin in a bath of the stuff, sealed up for a year, and it wouldn't harm the coin.

It was said that "opinions are like belly buttons." However, I disagree. Adam and Eve didn't have belly buttons, unless they were born by osmosis.

It has a MUCH better strike most of the 21's I've seen. I always give raw coins an acetone soak to remove organics and pvc; preventive maintenance. I would consider sending to ICG or ANACS just to prove it's genuine to future buyers. Doubt it would straight grade so use a lower cost service.

I like this, except for the fact that acetone has this coolness factor, A long soak of a copper coin I would recommend against.

Not everybody has a belly button. But they used to … before their belly was harshly cleaned.

Thank you for that suggestion. My scale isn't as fancy as most on here but it's very accurate for my needs in most cases. I took TWO weights on each side of the coin to show accurate weight. My Japanese girlfriend used to refer to it as "the food exit". No kidding. We had that conversation when the Japanese actor Yūsaku Matsuda passed away. She was trying to explain to me in English what the actor had died from. "The food exit" came into play during the conversation. BTW - If you don't already know it, Yūsaku Matsuda was the main bad guy in the 1989 film "Black Rain".

I hear that. And that's why "the food exit" is an area that's completely off limits (in my book).
