Hey Guys, I want to go purchase an american eagle $5 gold coin in uncirculated condition, ungraded. What is a good price to offer? how to I make sure its real? Can I weigh it? If so, what should it weigh?
An American Eagle $5 gold coin (minted 1986 to date) is a 1/10 ounce coin, and they aren't made to circulate. They used to be pretty easy to find in coin shops, but with the current frenzy for gold you might have to look a bit. The January 8 greysheet lists the coin at roughly $133 ask, so that should be your ballpark depending on which direction gold has moved since then.
If I had the money, I would buy some really cool, old coins. You are looking at a great coin. Please post pictures!
