Forgive me for repeating my inquiry, but I wanted to make sure one last time that these coins are/are not worth more than what was paid for them. Photos are attached to this post.

I have seen other coins that look to be the same coin, but these say "First Day of Release" on the slab, not coin. I'm wondering if that makes them worth more, or is that just a marketing trick. I'm aware that the signature may not mean it's worth more, based on the feedback I received from yesterday's post. I'm grateful for all the replies. I see these on eBay for about half of what my father paid, but they are not "First Day of Release" coins - it just says "early release." And there is no signature with Edmund Moy (with the ones on eBay). Thanks again, I hope I can be of some service to this group.

First day labels consistently carry a premium sometimes significant same with signatures.

The answer to both of your questions is yes the market value for first day would be greater than the market value for early release or first strike, and the market value of a signature label would be more than a non signature label

Moy? What a hoot..........If it was signed by Jack Higgins (The Eagle Has Landed) it might be worth more. devil.gif

I am curious, Moy hasn't been with the US Mint as Director since 2011. Why is he on the 2021 Slab?

Just some deal he has with some submitter or NGC for select submitters. The special labels can either be exclusive to one submitter or its a deal with the TPG where they pick and choose who can get them, I believe Moy was an NGC deal if I remember right

Depends how much you thought lol. But yea its worth more than the early release without the signature you had used as a comparison

do you have a link? Because the ones I see are selling for $60. Only difference is the signature and "First Day"

The above displays why this old man decided to stop with this year. I can't keep up with all the configurations and releases.

My dad paid roughly $95-$100 per coin, I thought they were worth $65 at most. I guess I was wrong.

I kind of hate these things. Most slabs I see have "first day of issue" or "early releases" , this particular one pictured says "first day of release"

there's no consistency and it drives me nuts!

I dunno, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, I don't see a Moy sig as desirable to have, but probably someone does out there.

It's all marketing gimmicks. outside of the holder it's 1oz. of silver and that's all that it is. the Moy sig is a gimmick, the "first day of release" is a gimmick, "eagle landing" is a NGC gimmick also. the difference between most MS69 and MS70 is also a gimmick and if you look at enough of them graded, you will find flaws on 70s that should hold it back but don't, and you will find MS69s that appear flawless. No idea how they do it, but it's also really inconsistent, not that there is much difference between a MS69 and MS70 in the first place.

Still I'm sure someone will pay something for it above the silver value of the coin, most places are selling some variation of NGC graded in MS70 for around $100-$120. Could he resell it for that to someone else? Possibly, maybe a couple bucks more or less, maybe less.
typically the basic slab saying "first day of issue" or "first release" is worth about $10 more than the ones that don't say it. No idea what "first day of release" is supposed to be though.

there's no listing on their website for it as a"designation".

One more thing, there are people that are collecting like NGC slabs with only Mercanti Signatures, or only Moy, ect. just something to do I suppose. Custom NGC Registry sets.
