So when my dad wanted me to check out his car, the first thing i looked was the compartment. The compartment barely had any copper pennies until i found some 2021 quarters and this beauty: Goodies found in coin compartment by Oooh_look2001 posted Aug 24, 2021 at 8:54 PM Goodies found in coin compartment by Oooh_look2001 posted Aug 24, 2021 at 8:54 PM
Nice! Congrats. I can't make out the date on the early Lincoln in the picture. Is it a 1909, or 1919? Funny how the perspective in that second photo makes one quarter look bigger than the other.
Nice find. Not as fun as a 1909 or 1909-VDB would've been, but definitely cool, to see a 102-year-old cent pop up in circulation like that.
Of course you can. My wife actually broke open a roll of cents she was adding to her register at work back in Feb/Mar this year. Mrs. Swimmer is not a collector but has been with me for 40 years and knows a bit of what to look for. This little stash definitely rung the bell for her. Not only did she find a 1909, but it was a VDB. Indian Head cents are definitely more rare to find, but they are still occasionally found when CRH. This was what she found when she broke open the roll. The lone cent on the bottom is the lucky one.
I didn't know that my father collected coins until my mother passed away. I lost my father in an auto accident about ten years before my mother passed. He was 2 years younger than I am now. I have a brother and 2 sisters. We got together an decided we would not try to divide my father's things until after she passed so that her home would stayed the same. He died on May 20th on his birthday. Anyway, my mother passed in 2004. When the 4 children, all in their mid to late 40s, got together to settle the estate, that was when we found out that my father had been collecting coins. I was surprised by the detail he had kept up on the coins. He kept a diary on every coin he bought. I have an Australian 1943 Shilling?, 1941 Bronze Penny-New Zealand,1917 One Penny, 1922 One-Half Penny, 1938 Three Pence, and a couple from India, 1943 One Anna, and 1944 One-Half Rupee. He had placed each one in a manila coin envelope and labeled each. He served in the U.S. Submarine service during WWII, Korea in the Korean War, and in Vietnam. After I saw all his work with his collection, I couldn't be more proud of my father. You might want to sit down and talk to your fathers about his hobbies...now and when he was younger. You might find out some interesting things.
If I were to send my coin to you to grade my coin, what would you grade it (I couldn’t find a coin in a similar condition to mine)
Absolutely. Last summer I was at the beach. I ordered a drink and was handed a very worn but identifiable V-nickel with my change….. These things don’t often happen, but they absolutely do happen.
