Thought it might produce some discussions and/or advice for those with ungraded coins which in the members views should, maybe, be slabbed and not sitting in a 2x2. I have a number of them which would never grade high enough, but there might be some surprises out there. I will start it with a run of the mill 1923
Yes, I know that for most people they are raw for a reason, I don't have any coins slabbed, just personal preference and they are not going to be sold. But others may not even be aware that they have something a little different from the norm. Nice examples from you, Sir
All of my coins are raw. The TPG's don't have "great eye appeal" designation. That is my only criteria. Your 1923 above has great eye appeal.
I have no problem with anyone choosing to collect raw, but that is technically not true. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/7501/learn-grading-plus-and-star/ Of course there are thousands of coins with eye appeal that are slabbed without the star, and its a very subjective criteria. I wish I had a raw peace to share, but I just looked and don't have any pictures of mine.
I love to collect raw. I am not a fan of TPGs, though will purchase keys to be on the safe side, but 90% of the collection is raw...including these!
I have two lower grade sets and I’m one coin away from a high grade set. I also don’t have any photos since I replaced my phone.
Here's a toned 1921 with subtle/decent luster all over that I can't seem to bring out well, and a 1928-S, posted once before while learning (practicing) photos...and still.
Thank you, but dimes are my first and deepest love. The Peace Dollars just served as a mistress for a time.
