How on Earth can one forget they paid pretty good chunks of change for special coins and then forget about them? I have no answers, but finding them in my safe was like opening Christmas presents. Difficult to photograph dish shaped coins, but this is the best I can do for now. Enjoy
These are one set that I routinely take out of my safe to look at..... However I did lose one of the gold strikes.... Long story.
My "I didn't know I owned it" coin is a GSA 1883 CC Morgan that I found in my safe when digging about a year and a half ago when everything was shutdown during the pandemic. Somehow I managed to buy it and get it, and have no idea when or for how much.
OP, that is one of the joys of getting older. I buy buy buy right now, figuring I will have the luxury of getting "new" coins daily from my SDB when I retire. I have absolutely no idea what I own except for some key pieces like my avatar, (daughter named after her), Cleo VII, etc. How many Alex III tets do I own? No clue! How many St Gaudens double eagles? Haven't the foggiest.
I just unpack boxes from 10 years ago to make it like Christmas. Nice looking set. I need to post my Apollo 11 Tokens.
I was so hot to trot for this release. I had expected that this would be one of those deals that you had to get in the first five minutes or they would be gone.
Honestly, one of my favorite ways to collect. Buy stuff, (like a nice group lot), look at them and put them aside. 3 years later, pick up lot and its like you are getting them in the mail all over again! Put them aside, and do it again in a few years. Its cheaper than buying them over and over, but the same thrill! I wish I was kidding with that statement. NUMEROUS times I have researched an esoteric coin I was interested in. I google about it, and find a post in CT about it. Great! I click on it, and its a post I already made about a coin I already own.
Geez, Mountain Man how could you forget these beauties. Go to the corner and put the dunce cap on. In exceptionally gorgeous condition for being forgotten. You must have a great way of preserving your collection. Thanks for sharing.
I can understand how you feel. At 73, every day is a new day for me. I, too, went gaga over the 2019 Apollo 11 coins. I bought all of the silver and gold ones. Somehow, I got 2 of the Apollo 11 Silver Dollars. I did get the 3 pictures. They're posted right next to my Mr. Spock picture.
