Picked this one up in my friend’s shop in North Carolina, because... Just ... because. I guess because it's not the sort of thing you'd expect to find in the "cheapo" inventory very often. It is heavily corroded and pitted, so certainly not the most savory example you could hope to find, but it came home with me for the princely sum of twelve bucks. The date is readable- if only just barely- provided you hold it at the right angle to the light. I do not know the Cohen variety, or if that is even determinable on an example this rough.
$12.00, with a date, is OK with me. It is about the hobby and collecting for the love of the hobby. I will give you $13.20. Win Win.
I bought some of this stuff to spice up my giveaway and vestpocket store inventory. This one definitely wouldn't make the cut to be included in my personal collection. That being said, it was still a fun pickup, so yes, I agree with you. I still enjoy even the non-keepers that pass through my hands and then on down the line to someone else. It's all fun.
Boy, that must have been resurrected from a dirt grave of long ago, but still has enough details to be collected.
Thanks! But I’m not used to seeing S-numbers (Sheldon?) in reference to half cents. I thought they were all C-numbers (Cohen?) I do not own either reference.
That was why I changed my post, but apparenly not fast enough. I missed that it was a half cent and tried attributing it as a Sheldon variety. Then realized my error.
Ah, OK. Explains that. Thanks for the help (on the 1798 in the other thread that is a large cent). I wasn’t sure whether or not you were citing a source I was unfamiliar with. (Which wouldn’t be hard to do, since I’m ignorant about most such specialized references.)
