Because there’s not much else to do in lockdown (that’s right - we’re in Lockdown 6.0 now in Melbourne) I’ve had time to devote to my hobby: capturing British and Roman rulers. My latest addition is Henry VIII. I didn’t want one of those beardless profile portraits (which were very similar to his father’s). I wanted something recognisably Henry VIII - big angry man with a beard: I believe attribution is: Denomination: AR Groat Mint: London Tower Obverse: Crowned bust 5 facing slightly right Reverse: Coat-of-arms over long cross fleurée Reference: Spink 2403 I’m not really that fussed about mints and bust types. I’m more a lover of history and my eye likes what it likes. Next on my capture list: Bloody Mary and Oliver Cromwell!

Cool portrait on your coin. I just read an interesting article about "Bloody Mary"'s coinage. If you'd like to have it, I can send you a scan of the 5-6 pages. Just PM me.
Yours looks to be the posthumous type, made after he passed. They're much more common. I expected mine to be the same till 2 different posters on the PCGS boards confirmed its lifetime and near his end. Henry VIII (1509-1547 A.D.) AR Groat Third Coinage O: D. G. AnG. FRA. Z hIB. "I'm Henery the 8th, I am...Henery the 8th I am, I am..." Can't recall the king, coin, etc. without remembering the hit song from the 60s by Herman's Hermits...!
Nice. I always wanted one with the old, fat, scowly Henry on it. The only portrait coin of his I've had was a halfgroat with a younger face. I've also had an Irish harp groat like @Alegandron posted, which I picked up on the cheap. I think @Mat has that one now. Edit- no, wait- it seems the @Mat and @Alegandron harp groats are one and the same! So it appears that coin has been through the hands of at least four CT members now: @Aethelred > @lordmarcovan > @Mat > @Alegandron. Cool! As @Aethelred is now a brick-and-mortar coin dealer with his own shop in Western North Carolina, I would speculate that that harp groat came from an old NC collection before he had it. Perhaps he can shed further light on its earlier pedigree, though he has little time to post on the forums these days, alas.
@GregH- you were right to want the older portrait, I think. We all know that face from the Holbein painting. (Interesting- until I read that Wikipedia article, I did not know the original is a lost work, and that there were so many different versions.) Source: Wikimedia Commons
LOL, I know. So far, my collection has been a Black Hole... I capture coins, but they never leave my clutches. I really enjoy the Groat... Thanks for being a purveyor!
A "K", I believe? Catherine (Katherine) of Aragon, the first wife? Edit- yep. Ooh, lookie here! Wow. Edit 2- oops, maybe not.
The attribution was given to me years ago from a specialist on the PCGS Boards, same person who attributed my portrait one in this thread. Here is an "R".. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4754268 Plenty more, fairly common. Probably issued in-between chopping some lady's heads.
