The most boring possible four-figure coin: a one-ounce American Gold Eagle for $1700, at a point when gold had "dipped" down to just that level. (That "dip" in the price of gold lasted for, what, seven years?) To be fair, it wasn't a bad deal -- an MS70 slabbed burnished 2006-W at spot seemed like a can't-lose proposition. Except, of course, if the price of gold tanks.
Paid 5 figures for a 1865 Seated dollar graded MS 64. Next in line would be my 1867 Seated dollar in MS 64, high four figure coin.
Wow, so many impressive coins and lots of great information. The coin graded VF25 Details, here's a pic in the slab and here it is with some of its pals. My apologies for my photography skills (or lack thereof).
I once bought a 1793 half cent in XF. I had never spent anything close to that amount of money on a coin before, and it bothered me so much to have that much wrapped up in one coin that I traded it away for a very nice return after a couple of months.
I forgot, I have spent a little over $2000.00 on a beautiful CSA Note 7 years ago. A few months ago I was offered $7000.00 but I have no interest in selling it.
I know, Mountain Man... If a 'paid' price goes into multiple thousands, It might sound like bragging. (And who want to be tagged with that moniker?) J.T.
I like to share my coins and show them off. People might be interested in seeing it. For most of my coins, they were bought at auction and you can just go look up the price if you want. So, I don't really see it as bragging... especially since that's the whole question of this thread.
That is a beautiful coin. I really like it but I couldn't afford it so I bought the 2015S American Liberty Silver Medal .999 FINE Early Releases, PF 70 Ultra Cameo. I really don't remember what I paid for it. However, I did drop a wad of $1,945 on April 6, 2017 to the Mint for the 2017W American Liberty 225th Anniversary One-Ounce Gold Proof Coin. Not the best purchase, but I couldn't get the Gold 2015 American Liberty.
I purchased a NGC Slabbed AU-58 1909 S-VDB in 2018 for $975.00. Have managed to stay under that since, but time will tell. Enjoyed your post, thank you.
My wife opened up my checking account statement with the cleared cheque for a significant sum and called me in Europe at 3am to ask if that was for real.
