I've never even seen such a coin, in person or a photo...an MS68 Morgan...gotta be the smoothest face ever. Haven't looked it up but gotta be one heck of a list.
It’s an 1881-S, which comes nice. This one is exceptionally nice. The question is are you ready to spend a 5 figure price for a super common date and mint mark combination? I would rather buy a high grade Proof DCAM.
Based on the photo, this coin looks perfectly acceptable (and quite nice) for the MS 68 grade. One can find MS 68s in the $3,000-$4,000 range so it's not as bad as 5 figures but I agree that is still a lot to spend when one can buy a nice MS 66 for 10 times less.
Put it in a Heritage auction and find out what can happen. There are people who suffer from “green bean-ittus” who will view this as the buying opportunity of the year.
There was another discussion of this coin not long ago. "Make the grade"? Yes, according to both PCGS and CAC. That's the highest industry standard that is generally accepted in the marketplace. So yeah, good enough for me. They know more than the average CoinTalk user, most of the time.
Just a few highlights the op also owns If you want me to go ahead and post a Cat selfie, a picture I would take years ago when I used to post here just so you could see that the queen is in my hand and given that it’s next to my cat my current problem is that I thought I lost the heritage bed so I went and got the Ebay Coin since I wanted a nice high-grade Morgan and then I looked at heritage and it turns out I accidentally put bid protection on so I won both now I can always return the eBay I’d like to see them both before I make any decisions about getting rid of one. I might just wanna keep them both even though they’re both 1881SMS 68 I’m basically a high-end type collector with a passion for off metal copper patterns. Let me know if you want me to post some of that. I was pretty active during the recent heritage sale of the Simpson corns and picked up some real nice off metal copper patterns.
That was the other coin. While they’re both Pcgs ms 68 1881S Morgan’s believe me when I tell you different coins
Wow, well, color me impressed. That's a really nice set! Not often we see that sort of stuff around here.
Well, now, that was a mic drop, wasn’t it! Or, to use an older metaphor, “dropped the other shoe”. Several of them. Color me impressed, as well.
