just found this one this morning i have heard of the spitting bison from Kansas but never from north Dakota at least it looks about the same as Kansas
your probably right about the condition but it doesnt look like a scratch from my end .might be but looks like raised material from every angle.saying that ive been wrong a lot more than ive been right lol
It's a scratch. Please keep in mind that the spitting eagles are only remnants of a die clash. For some reason, they were hyped as being rare and desirable, but in reality, they are just a nice minor variety. Outside of novice collectors falling for the hype, there is no significant market from error/variety specialists. Same goes with the IN -RUST WE TRUST quarters. They are just minor filled die errors. Your coin isn't a clashed die or a die break. Just a scratch.
Whenever in doubt about a spot being raised or incused, use a wooden tooth pick to gently run over the suspected area and you should be easily able to tell which it is. From your photo, I believe I see displaced metal, which is an indicator of a scratch. As @Oldhoopster mentioned, there is no added value (NAV).
Not really just a bunch of die chips extremely common. All of those sate quarter erros aren't really major enough to get any extra out of them.
