Thanks so much! I was looking all over the place for that info. It looks like the official name for Afghanistan is changing...from "Islamic Republic of Afghanistan" to "Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan".

My first 2004 coin purchase arrived! I purchased five (5) sets for a total of $26.14 (S&T included) and they are much nicer than I expected! I probably overpaid (I have no idea how to tell) but am pleased with my purchase. I would grade these coins as MS63...very lustrous! https://www.ebay.com/itm/303858814214
I read in the WSJ that the US sent cash and coins because of the currency shortage, by the plane loads.
Both Iraq and Afghanistan coins issued on 2004 by under Coalition Provisional Authority during the war. the both minted in UK by De La Rue company. That's info by arabic news blog back in 2004
That's interesting...do you have a link? I found a wikipage for De La Rue, plc, but they only refer to producing Iraqi notes. No mention of coins or Afghanistan... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_La_Rue
