Found another "W" mint mark quarter CRH. This one isn't in very good condition, but at least it is a "W" mint mark. What do you thing is going on with the helmet? Just damage?

I agree about something up on the helmet. It should have a camo pattern. Maybe a stain from a drop of something corrosive? Almost looks like a faded P within a circle. Did note that there are already die cracks and chips discovered on the War in the Pacific quarters. Wow! Good eye, First Sergeant! My W has something going on there too, but nothing like what you have. My D looks completely unremarkable. By no means hijacking - just posting for comparison. However, my photos suck for getting up close. Is it just the light, or does that soldier (or is that a Marine?) in the background appear somewhat different between the D and W? On both your and my W, the crouching soldier's head seems closer to his hands and firearm. EDIT - Congrats on the find!
