How about a list of coins you will NEVER get? I put my coins in albums, so if I get a slabbed coin I crack it out. I do not collect gold or dollar coins. This is a list of coins I would ONLY buy slabbed , but would NOT breakout, so . . . . I will never get these. Oh, and they cost too much! I have a number of them. The trick is too not spend your money. Save it, a little here and a little there. In time you’ll be able to afford any one of those. Then start saving your money all over again.
Back when you could buy (from the mint) the 4-gold-coin set for $995, I purchased a few, plus a couple single gold coins...sold them all since then. But no can do these days, so for sure will never own another gold piece. And truth be told, if I had the means for one or two of gold, would likely not buy them but rather something of some non-gold coin(s) I've always wanted since boyhood (to include that 1909-S VDB).
I can afford them but several things hold me back . . . I have a need to fill my album holes and I wouldn't with those, and as I get closer to retirement it gets harder to justify the cost, and my wife won't let me.
California gold $50 gold a.k.a. "Slug" The last one I saw I liked was priced at $72,000. 1907 wire rim with periods $10 gold. Very nice ones were available when I was buying expensive coins, but I had other priorities. 1801 Thomas Jefferson inaugurated medal by John Reich. I had my shot and blew it.
...at home but limited mobility for awhile yet...and I have bid board coins from my LCS to pick up...arrrrrrrrrrrrrrg
Never say never. Back in junior high (in the late 70s) when I started accumulating my Winged Liberty Head dime collection I just knew I would never own the kingpin to the whole set. Ever. It took almost 20 years but I landed an NGC VF 1916-D. Which has more than doubled in value since then. Don’t put the keys off. Stuff as much cash away as you can and then bite then off when able. You’ll thank yourself 20 years later. Rick L.
Pity........I thought you were younger. Let no woman determine what it is you collect. I've been lucky, as mine has always supported my efforts.
So glad to hear your home. Your escape plan worked. May they not find you. Lol I’m sure your LCS will hold them for you until you can get in to pick them up.
If it looks good to me I buy it, especially if I can get it $30 below bid. A decent VG I picked up last night. I put together full 64 coin sets and sell em on ebay for a modest profit.
During my years as a collector I have have many lists of "coins I will never own". The surprising thing is how many of them I now own today.
