Hello. I am new here and would like some opinions as to what this coin maybe worth. This coin has been in my family since 1968 when it was found on my Grandfathers property in Arkansas(lots of coins were found). The property was a fairgrounds from the 1840's until the 1950's.I posted 2 photos,There is aSmall bit of damage on the outside of the Bezel but all the detail seems to be there on the rest of the coin.Any opinions are Welcome. Thanks in Advance-Bryan The 2nd pic is blurry but that was the best the cmaera could do.The front is as nice as the back
It's a little hard to tell, but it looks AU. (If you can, post better pics of the obverse, looks like there may be some hairlines on it). As for the price, the rim dig on the reverse will hurt the grade, but the 1888S is a better date. If the obverse is clean it's worth around $175.
Unfortunately, it looks like the coin was lightly cleaned on the obverse. (The fine parallel lines on Liberty's face and the lower half are the signs). It's a little harder to give a price, but it's still probably worth around $150.
It's hairlined on the obverse. It has sentimental value to you so keep and appreciate it. It looks cleaned and retoned to me (overly dipped). I don't think it would get the value of 175$ on ebay or what have you. Just my thoughts. Don't take as negative, just how the coin appears to me.
A little more about the coin.I inherited it when my Grandfather Passed.I have not cleaned this coin although I can't say if it ever has been. What appear to be scratches are not on the coin, honestly.I will try to get a better picture.as for Toned. No Way! This has been in my tool box for the past 20 years(kept in a coin pouch, not just rattilin around.Having had this coin this long I have never paid much attention to it.I honestly didn't see the S untill about 10 am this morning.Just thought it turned out to be a pretty cool day.....What was really cool is Grandad had a metal detector and un earthed lots of old coins most from the 1850's to 1870's and several 5 and 20 $ gold pieces. All got dividEd up pretty well amongst the family.Sadly the land is no longer in the family....however its still a Farm and I may pay a visit this summer:whistle::thumb:
