this dime has seen its better days but it just might be a d mint mark very very week if it is . would be nice lol
Not saying it is not, but I have noted elsewhere that my other. hobby is astronomy and when it comes to identifying (almost) unperceivable details in (ridiculously) magnified images, my time in numismatics has served me well. Get it certified and we'll believe it. Best Regards, Mike M.
no, it's wishful thinking, don't waste your money trying to get it certified as a D, if you have to crank up magnification that far and still not really see it, it's not there. Besides, the rim edge is still well defined and in the picture, it'd be impossible to wear off the mintmark to that level and still have the rim edge like that and some detail to the fasces, the mintmark is just not there.
I can't judge it with the coin oriented as it is. I would need a straight up view to even guess. But, I think it is a 1916 P.
Agree it's not, but in addition to what others have mentioned it's (as marked) also too far right...too near the device...than the vast majority.
Just your imagination. Compare this dime to yours. This dime has more wear and yet the with the rim being worn away the D mint mark is still quite strong. It’s easily viewed. Notice the position of the D. The angle of the D is in line with ONE DIME. Also, notice it’s location. It higher than yours when compared to the olive stalk. What you are seeing may look like a D but it’s not for all the reasons I listed above, it’s to low, the angle and the wear. You still show a rim and a stalk but the raised D is almost completely gone? Just your imagination.
Oh, I've stared at 1916 dimes for long periods of time, trying to will a D to appear. I think there should be a new category of "1916 Weak D" dimes. There'd be a bunch of them for sale. Steve
