I picked up a dozen coins for $8 each over the weekend and I’m still having trouble with the identification of two. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 2.6g 16mm This looks to me like a Roman Provincial from the east early 3rd century. Thought it would be pretty easy but tried RPC to no luck. 4.3g 18mm This one is well out of wheel house and has me fully stumped, looks Antioch 1st century BC if I were to wager a guess but beyond that I’m not sure. PS Ignore attached photos below not sure how to remove them
Well, for #2, I think that I can make out IΛOΠAT(or ILOPAT) on the reverse legend. The deity appears to be a winged Nike. ΦIΛOΠATOPOY(PHILOPATER)? Eros on the obverse? If so, @hotwheelsearl 's hunch is correct.
I think its this one... https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ce...s_ix_kyzikenos__eros__nike/77893/Default.aspx As for the 1st one the lengeds read to me on the reverse EΔE ΔCCΔ but I still can't figure it out.
The first one is very likely a provincial of Edessa Macedon with the reverse of Tyche of Macedon crowning a seated figure. Just tough to see in the condition it is in.
I think you're right, however I am having trouble matching the legends and weight with any example on Wildwinds or RPC
Edessa of Macrinus, just rotate the reverse. You are not alone in looking at it upside down https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=7372305
