I came across this coin and suspect it is a cud error. I can't read the date. I would appreciate any help? Should I sent it out to be assessed?
There might be a cud forming to the left of “CENTS”, but the coin is so badly corroded, it’s hard to be sure. The big blob on the other side is post mint damage.
No, I wouldn't send it in. I'm actually surprised the shape that's in just seemed to go right by you. I mean, seriously, who'd be interested in that? And to think that lump's a mint error? Are you really looking at it? I'm just having a hard time understanding how someone can think that. But think it you did, and you got your answer. So, IDK, thank you for sharing.
That coin was definitely buried for some time. The corrosion damage is from contact with acidic soil. The shinny bump appears to be something dripped on the surface and not originally part of the coin metal, so not a cud or any type of error, at least in my opinion.
Thank you all for your comments. Like I said I am new to coin collecting and still have a lot to learn. I appreciate the input. Barbara
On the reverse there may be a retained cud left of cents, and possibly a rim cud at 5:00. But with all the post strike damage the coin is probably worth less than a dollar.
Damaged. Even if there were a cud there, the overall condition of the coin renders it unworthy of certification, as it would not be worth the expense.
That's the whole thing. People come on here all the time equipped only with the knowledge some errors are worth money. They're not here to learn how to collect coins, just how to spot errors. We try to teach them they're on the wrong track, they're only being conned by idiots who are profiting off their naivety, and they rebel by becoming the more obsessed, to the point where it's almost a psychosis. They're "learning" the wrong way if they're trying to learn the hobby, that's the bottom-line.
