I realize this Zincoln is toast, but for my own edification I want to know if this a clipped planchet or PMD. Thanks !
Thanks collecting nut. The curvature is about right and I have heard of ragged clips. So I was curious.
Your specimen made me wonder how much of a coin can be missing before it's no longer legal tender (Is that the right term?). I think a human cashier will likely still accept this. But I wonder if a self checkout station will reject it.
I know that for bills, there has to be at least 51% of the bill. (Which makes sense.) I’m not saying a cashier would accept the bill with half of it gone, but that’s what it is considered legal tender.
The Coinstar machine will definitely reject it. The cent in question is DEFDAM Definitely Damaged. Not an Incomplete planchet. Not a mint error of any kind.
PMD. The coin has too many problems to be anything else. True clips are usually rounded and the surfaces around the clip are usually beveled, not abbreviated. Straight, end of the strip clips are more unusual and harder to verify.
I thought that was the case. Most people think a ragged clip occurs at the start or end of the strip that planchets are made from. That’s not the case. A ragged clip can occur anywhere on the strip. Usually they are not curved like a curved clip but more straight in nature. A Google search of ragged clips will be helpful.
Send it to the Chinese. Oh forget it, they would certainly duplicate it and send it back. Paddyman and others have your back, good luck.
