The casing did that to it, or it was machined like that to fit the casing.

 

@eddiespin . Where did you get casing from ? The Holder ? I'm a little lost .

 

Isn't that what they call a clamshell aka its a type of lamination.

 

Yeah, Sal, that's what I meant. It looks like it was encased. That's how the edges look from being held in there. The casing has to be tightened or the coins will fall out.

 

Okay, that's what I thought. I just don't know who would encase this coin is all ?

 

Looks like a tilted partial collar.

 

Perhaps it has personal significance to the original owner, the point is moot though as we can't really know unless the owner speaks for the coin.
