Think of it this way, how many are they still printing for circulation? That's why I keep them, that and they are low enough denomination I can afford to hand on to them. Regardless of condition, I hang on to them because they are becoming more rare and I like the looks of them. To each their own.

What the face value $18.00 I would keep them . Place them in a big type of book for a month see if the bumps are taken out . then put them in a acid free paper money holder. Pass them on to your children if you have any.

If all they are to you is the value, spend them. Give others who appreciate them a chance to get them.

If they have value why would I spend them?

If they have value and someone else who appreciates them wants them they are welcome to buy them.

I enjoy having a Silver Certificate available to show a young person that the paper money used to be backed by something of value (redeemable for a silver dollar)...versus the current currency which is a note, a promise to pay later.

Well “technically” money is still redeemable in gold and silver.

    Just not from the government.

I can take a $100 bill online to JM Bullion or APMEX and redeem it for 4 oz of silver.

Try taking a 1964 dime and a 1965 dime to your local coin shop to see what they'll give you for each!

If you took a half disme into the bank back in the 1800s they wouldn’t give you gold or silver for it either ;).

If they're not worth anything and don't mean anything to me I just spend them. Let someone they have meaning to find them, why not?

Thats what I was asking in the first place. I was asking if they were worth anything so I could decide if I should just spend them or not.

If they’re only worth face value I would spend them. But if they’re worth more than face value it would be dumb to spend them since whoever found it would probably sell it and make a profit so I might as well do that myself.

It'll cost you more to sell those than they're worth. I'm just saying how it is.

As I said, the 'politicians' legislated the promise of receiving silver for the silver certificates to be invalid after June, 1968, according to your post. Since the time limit has expired decades ago, then the silver certificates should have been deemed no longer valid currency at that time. Politicians put an artificial time limit to the validity of the currency. "Ten Dollars in silver payable to the bearer on demand." What don't you understand? That's what the note says. So if the government has no intention of honoring the promise made on the note, then make that currency no longer valid.

I’ll add that LCSs won’t buy circulated specimens unless other factors important are in play. Something worth 15% over face generally won’t interest them or many collectors. That said, collector’s collect for any reason and to many here, having a piece of history is more valuable than +15%. I still have all my circulated bills even though they are barely worth more than face to most collectors. But no sense in cashing them in now anyway.

They say they're redeemable for silver on demand so go in there and demand. :)

I enjoy old currency in any condition. I have them in a large secure album and check them all out every time I put another one in. As for value I leave that up to my heirs. Until my end, I will enjoy what they represented during their life time and mine. After that I won't know anyway!

Silver certificates in gem condition aren't worth much have several stars, maybe $25
the 57,s are near worthless, they just printed to much now the 35,s are a different story :) but again condition is everything.
