https://www.ebay.com/itm/363496412043?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT i felt like a fool bidding as high as 75.00 for this, is it possible that they are really worth this much?? so far i have bought 3 dimes for 30-40 ea, many cents from 8.00 to 25.00 and 2 nickels but 126?? wow is all i can say..
In my opinion, the off center percentage isn't enough to justify that price. I might have bid a few dollars, but not near that much!
Possibly, as most 2020 ATB errors seem to appear on the American Samoa bat and the Salt River Bay quarters. Someone who is trying to assemble all 5 of the 2020 coin designs in broadstruck could bring up the price. Still, 126 is too high IMO.
The bid history seems to show a bidding war between 2 bidders. Both must have wanted it bad. But in the end a 3rd bidder came in and sniped it.
i am the one who went up to 75.00..i would mention the name i used, but everyone got pissy the last time i mentioned my company name, lol
I'm sorry John. I don't mean to be rude, but I'd be very glad I lost that auction with a $75 bid. At $126 I have to agree with @furryfrog02 and his comment about a fool and his money.....
WELL, IN 2 YEARS THIS IS THE ONLY ONWE I HAVE SEEN, AND I SEE SLABBED DD0 AND DDR GOING FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED, AND THOS ERRORS YOU NEED A MICROSCOPE TO SEE, LOL I THINK 75 WOULD OF BEEN COOL TO GET IT FOR...THE DIMES COST ME 25, 35 AND 42, FOR THE 3 I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND, THEY JUST ARE NOT OUT THERE, THE ONLY WAY TO SEARCH FOR THESE TYPE OF ERRORS IS TO GET A $25,000.00 BAG OF THEM FROM THE MINT, AND ALSO 800.00 CORE CHARGE FOR THE PALLET AS WELL AS OTHER FEES ON TOP OF FACE VALUE..
Really?I'm not a pro on error coins but to me it doesn't look significant enough to carry a decent premium.still its no where near what it sold for otherwise.
And yet your very first sentence in this thread you stated you felt like a fool bidding $75. PS- no need to YELL!
NOT yelling, it is just easier for me to see the larger type, and easier for others to read as well, i hate small type, need the magnifier to read..anyways, yes, i did feel foolish but now i think i am going to have to lay out quite a bit to get one, seems 75.00 is not enough...there are no others available, think i changed my mind, hopefully next auction i will get one
Not an off-center, uncentered broadstrike. But they are still quite rare. Striking errors like this are much rarer after 2002. If this quarter had been say a 1999 it would have been worth MUCH less. Since 2002 they have stepped up their quality control, and they went to horizontal striking presses. On the old vertical presses if the planchet wasn't fed into the coining chamber properly (off-center) or the collar was pressed down and not present (broadstrike), the planchet sat there on top of the collar and was struck as the dies came together. In the horizontal strike presses if the planchet isn't properly seated in the collar it falls out of the press so it isn't there when the dies come together. So for an off-center or broadstrike the dies have to catch the planchet as it falls. This makes these errors much rarer than they used to be. I don't know if $126 is too much, but it probably is in the ball park.
