A few more newps . . . Nice original 1936-D buffalo . . . A scarce Long Nock 1878-S Morgan, albeit in low grade . . . And a really nice 1914-D Half Eagle . . .
I went a bit wild today. I love the FR02 look. Made an offer to David Lawrence on this one. He accepted my offer. This is my oldest coin I own now.
1897 1c S-1 won in auction last night. It was unattributed so it's now one of my best cherrypicks for Indian Cents
It was listed as a regular 1808, but I suspect the bidding reached $255 because the other bidder knew what it was.
I like that about the auction format. The seller does not need to know anything, just put the coin in the market. Market forces set the value fairly; in fact they are exactly what determines the fair value. The seller, if all goes well, is protected from his or her own ignorance. Of course, if the potential market doesn’t notice the coin, there are bargains to be had! I hope this one works out well for you.
Two new coins acquired Wednesday at my Local Coin Club. First up is a 2011 ASE won for a $5 raffle ticket. Of course, if you include all the tickets I've purchased without a win, this ASE probably cost me $100. Second up is a NGC PF-70 Ultra Cameo 2010-S Silver Roosevelt Dime. Won at the club auction which I never bid in. But this one is going to be an upgrade to the 1964 impaired proof in my Type Set. Hammered at $15 after spirited bidding. Employed my usual strategy in live, in-person bidding: Bid hard and fast, which can rattle the competitors.
