Whitman Publishing Is having the Winter expo, November 18-20. https://expo.whitman.com/baltimore-winter-expo/schedule/ Anyone interested in going? I can drive there, and hope to see you all there.
Barring a mask mandate, I'll be there. I usually get a room at the Royal Sonesta and make a staycation out of it. They actually have TVs hidden in their bathroom mirrors! I love that!
I'm already in Baltimore, and I greatly enjoyed going to the Fall Whitman shows pre-pandemic, so (assuming the COVID resurgence isn't too bad by then) I plan on going again this November, probably on the Friday.
Friday and early Saturday are the best times. Many dealers fold up shop after lunch on Saturday. Looking for coins on a Sunday is like trying to meet girls at 2:00am in the club...after the lights come on.
Provided it doesn't get cancelled again or whatever the new Covid variant isn't rampaging through the country, I will probably be in attendance. The November 2019 Baltimore Whitman show was the last one that FFIVN and I attended. Not sure if he will be coming with me or not this time. We shall see. We usually go on Saturday morning. Not that anyone wants to meet up with me lol.
I'm signed up for a table, but the past several shows have all been canceled, so I'm holding my breath.
I just may go then go over to the B&O museum. To tell the truth it's a excuse to go to the B&O museum. Now if the museum is closed due to covid I may not go any way.
Yup, Sunday is tough to look for coins, unless you are looking for dropped coins. Especially since the show is Thursday to Saturday.
They've cleared out the convention center and cleaned it, so it's ready to go. The only question is if the delta variant stays away from MD and the governor feels safe enough to leave things open.
INTERESTED!!!? It must be close to two years since my last Baltimore Whitman show. I'm well into the middle stage of coin show withdrawal. I may drive up there now and get a good parking spot. Fortunately I'm only about 35 miles away.
My bachelor party was at the Two O'clock Club. I got to meet Blaze Starr a LOT more closely than I cared to. My SiL and BiL live in Baltimore County so I have a rescue place. I always go to the show on Friday. What I'm most curious about is what the dealers will be asking for their coins. In the past people in here often decided to meet at a time and place at the show. Often it was at The Penny Lady's table. As the show gets closer we might consider something like that again. As an aside, for those of you living in areas of clear skies the Perseid Meteor Shower is at its maximum tonight and tomorrow night. We're supposed to have thunderstorms both nights. Bummer!
Yeah I was looking forward to the meteor shower and was planning on camping in the backyard with the kids to watch it. Not so much any more
I would love to attend, but, at my age I'm not not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow unless it is golf.
I can not attend but I will certainly await the results from those of you that do. Inquiring minds want to know, Thanks in advance. Be safe, wear a mask!
The first Baltimore show I attended (my first coin show ever), I got lost among the tables. I would see a coin I liked at one table, look for similar examples at other tables (for comparison), then forget where the first table was. I had one guy try to sell me a raw 1919-D FSB Mercury Dime. Any nut could see the bands were only 80% FSB. The guy flipped out when I told him his coin wasn't what he thought it was. I really get tired of dealers bulldozing unsuspecting buyers. Then...when I found a coin I wanted to buy, the guy says, "Sorry, we don't take credit cards". I'm like "WTF?! You expect me to walk around Baltimore with a wad of cash in my pocket?!". I just go there to look around, anymore. I sometimes pick up a book or two, but that's about it. I did have a pleasant experience once. A seller from California had an MS63 1886 Liberty Nickel I needed to complete my MS63+ Liberty Nickel collection. He wouldn't take a credit card, either...but he said, "Give me what you have in your pocket, then send me the rest.". That was nice of him...and I did. You meet all sorts of folks at a coin show.
