2001 New York State Quater. Found in a roll. Obverse is beautiful and the reeded edge is shinny as can be ( pictures don’t do the edge justice). I wouldn’t believe it is a missing clad layer quarter if the obverse wasn’t MS60+. What are y’all’s thoughts?
Looks like corrosion to the reverse. Eveything looks a bit distorted as if a harsh chemical affected it. It should be a true copper color is it were missing the Clad.. IMHO
First, welcome to the neighborhood! Like Mr. P. said, it was probably affected by some chemical. If it was truly missing the clad layer, the high points, including the rim, wouldn't be a silvery color like they are. Here is my best example of a coin missing the clad layer.
I agree, I have found coins "lost" in my truck and when I cleaned it found a Quarter MUCH like this wedged near the floor matt. one side was shiny other had that dull coppery look. pattyman98 nailed it again. POP goes the bubble. Next time might be a great find so keep looking and Welcome to Coin Talk.
You heard it from the best. With that being said, welcome to CT and keep posting, everyone is here to help.
Welcome to CT @Detecting814. It appears the reverse was laying in something that damaged the clad layer, so just ED or environmental damage and NAV, no added value. Good luck on future finds.
Keep showing that coin. It’s so helpful to know what a missing layer looks like. Plus the coin is so special and pretty
Yes @paddyman98 should know. He comes in 2nd to @cpm9ball Battle of the non clad giants. My favorite type coin hands down
