1989 D question about weight.

    Hi, I looked on my coins and I took one 1989 and feel it that is heaviest than normal and I weight the coin and is showing 2.64 grams. I weight all my 1989 d and all of them is showing 2.52. Now the question is what is the chance that can be copper and what is allowing to add weight on coins when they are minted? Thank you.

    Slightly thicker than normal planchet is all .

    Only slightly above tolerance. When did you last, correctly, calibrate your scale?

    It's a new digital scale using very rare but there is difference not only on weight but the same on thickness. Normal coin is slimmer than this one.

    When I started weight couple of 1989 D there is difference like one is 2.52 another 2.48 etc but no more than 2.52

    A rolled thick (or thin) blank is not unusual unless it is far above (or below) tolerance
