Maybe the first ones struck will come out proof like? I imagine it would occur just like the proof like pre-1921 Morgans. They weren’t intended to be proofs but since they were minted with fresh, polished dies they came out PL. They can demand a hefty premium over a non-proof like.
I logged on before 11:30 AM figuring that I would not be able to log on just before it became available. I sat and kept churning the site with moves to prevent getting dropped. I got dropped anyway when I tried to pay. I got to the the last window and was dropped despite the fact that I had a valid, pre-entered credit card. I logged on three more times and was dropped. One time I could not get to the log-in page. Finally I got a transaction to go though. I guess I will get one Peace Dollar, which is what I wanted. The Mint website sucks. There is no other way to describe it. If you don’t keep trying to log on, you have no chance of getting anything.
I think you ended up refreshing too much and it makes you seem like a bot. There is no need. In my experience the Mint always releases stuff exactly when they say they will. Within a minute of scheduled time. Next time try using a secondary device with seperate internet (like a cellphone with LTE) to refresh until you see it for sale. Then switch to your primary device, refresh once, add it to your bag and checkout.
If you are on the page where the item will be sold, does the website automatically reset to the ordering mode, or it just sit there? Your advice re-enforces my position that the Mint's website sucks. If the mintage on this item was not set at 200 or 300 thousand, I forget which, I would have ended up with nothing.
No you have to refresh it when they are available for it to show that they are for sale and you can add it to your cart. If you just watch the page it won’t suddenly change from “remind me” to “preorder” without a refresh.
No you don’t have to churn. Just refresh once when you see your clock go from 11:59 to 12:00. Well in all honestly I think the gauntlet really is the fairest way to do it. That way it’s totally up to chance. Some people’s orders go through. Others don’t. Everyone is on a fair playing field and no one has any control over who gets a coin and who doesn’t. Some of it is anti-bot stuff as well. Bots are unfair since they can place an order much faster than a human being possibly could.
It's just not that simple for some of us. As I mentioned in my earlier comments I suspect my slower rural broadband connection hurt my chances. I even had to log out and log back on after a dozen or so tries after getting flagged as a bot. Once I did that it was the same old crap all over again. No, the gauntlet isn't necessarily fair since not all internet connections are the same.
Thats true not all internet connections are the same but there is really no solution for that. The Mint is doing the best they can. I think the limit of 3 per household really helped. If you look at the CC & O Morgans they are selling for 2-3x as much as the rest. I believe it’s because of the limit of 10 instead of 3. Resellers bought a lot more of them than collectors and so more people ended up buying them on sites like EBay which drove prices up.
I probably would have had better luck using my cellphone. The data rate is much higher. I guess as I get older smaller screens and buttons are harder to navigate.
Has nothing to do with the household limits, the CC and O are just the most popular period. The CC old ones have big premiums and many of the O do as well. They're more unique which is why they are more popular and have the higher price. They also came out first and by yesterday there is fatigue with how many of them there are and the fact that they wont be coming for months
As an odd aside.... I get emails from Ebay and today they happened to feature 1921 Peace Dollars.... I was floored at the asking prices for low to mid grade Peace Dollars. I am sure it's just a temporary upswing based on yesterdays 2021 Peace Dollar sale.
The price of 1921 Peace dollars is off the charts this year. Good time to sell. Better to buy next year when prices come back down. TC
I successfully got in and ordered two. My credit card statement showed pending charges for two. Then the charges disappeared. Does that mean I lost my order? Or were they just verifying my card was legit and will charge me when they ship?
You should be fine. They don't actually charge you until they ship. If you go on the mint website and check your orders, you will see your silver dollars on back order.
Boy! I'm glad you told me that I would be charged when the coins ship. I, too, had them on my "Pending" of the orders. Were we not advised that our credit cards would be initially charged and the "Order" report would show "Pending" and then taken off of our credit card "Pending" and they were reported that the Orders would be classified "Pending?" That's a "Hinky" way of doing business. However, when you check on the 2021 Morgan, we are told that our credit card would be charged in October (something?) whenever they are shipped. Another "Hinky" way of doing business. However, since it is a government "Agency", they can do whatever suits their fancy. Correct?
