20th Century Key Date Guy I am a type collector, so pretty much anything goes. I mostly collect 20th century key dates by type. It is interesting to me because it covers several series and therefore makes for a greater variety of subjects and a greater depth of things to study. Collecting by type allows me to look at how historic events affected the US Mint as an entity. The Great Depression affected coinage to the point where several series weren't minted in given years. 1921 is probably my favorite year. Many key date coins were minted in 1921, but it's not the only interesting year. The WWII years (1942-1946) are also a time of change to coinage in both design and materials and there are many other examples. One of my long term goals is to assemble a 20th century type set made up of key dates. Since I am an average Joe with a family and a kid in college, this is quite an ambitious goal but onward toward it I go!
Personally I really did not prefer any, just getting them reasonable for my customers at the antique booth. But now the bug has really bitten me. I really like the buffalo , but have been getting some proofs and a few graded coins for my own collection.
I collect first and foremost world silvers but I have steered my buying power to collect a 1937 Canadian paper money set from 1-100 and then someday I will pick up a nice 1937 1000$ but until then I will work on the 1-2-5-10-20-50-100
So far... but I also have some U.S.-Philippines coins which I also consider American since the Philippines were a U.S. territory at the time and the coins were made in San Francisco. And I think they look great too:
Anything that takes my fancy to be honest :smile and just for Carl here is a couple of three sided coin LOL Both part of my collection :smile
