I just found this penny while going through a jar of pennies someone sold me. The 'd" in United and "s" through "t" in states is barely noticeable. Is this something with grease in the die? Or is it something else? Is it pmd? The rest of the coin is in decent shape. Any opinions? I'd love to read them.
This is a common area for weakness in the strike due to Abe's shoulder on the obverse. I agree with struck thru grease as the weakness seems excessive in that area.
I'd say grease on/in the die, especially due to no damage on the obverse side. Some mint employee wiped the die and instead of cleaning it, pushed grease into the devices. NAV, no added value, at least in my opinion.
Due to the obverse it’s a weak area on the reverse but add in a little grease and you’ll get what you have.
These are pretty common. I find them all the time. I only keep the ones that are extreme no value just cool to look at.Here’s a couple of mine.
Is it fair to wonder in public, what is the highest auction price ever paid for a coin chiefly constituted of aluminum, or as here in post-apocalyptic America, zinc? Please, this is a serious query; no mean-spirited or derogatory replies.
