Jezzzz DeOrc this is a tidal wave that you need ID'es. The coin you posted with a bull on the back, looks very similar to a Celtic coin I have from around 3rd century BC. Here it is, the coin on top: Traci

I came in very late on this so my help is probably way too late. I found no link to the ones not photographed here.

The Tetricus II is correclty a Tetricus II but you listed the obverse legend as Tetricus I ending AVG. The photo clearly reads CAES at the end so the coin was IDed correctly.

"Need help with this one" is Commodus from Philippopolis, Thrace, I believe.

I'm not up on the rules on Coin Talk but I would suggest that requests for ID be posted one coin per post. That way the text would be adjacent to the photo rather than making us scroll up to a list of six descriptions over three images.

Doug if you want to see the coins then simply click on the link in my sig to Omnicoin
Now about the rest, sorry but that is the only way I know how to post the pics if it is too dificult then thanks but I am not making anyone do anything they do not wish to do.
As for the Tetricus I this is what the dealer here in London listed it as and that is what I listed it as.
What might be clear to you is I am afraid not at all clear to me, as my eyesight is not the best, I would also point out that those coins I have just posted I did not ask for any id to be done?

Nice thread and coins De Orc.

Could the Tetricus be a barbarous imitation?

The Tetricus I posted today was correctly Tetricus I but I see the reverse as FIDES MILITVM rather than the listed Laetitia. The Tetricus II was posted way back in Frbruary (before I discoverd CoinTalk) and is correctly IDed (I agree with the reverse listed) but the obverse for Tetricus can not end in AVG and does read CAES as it should. The common obverse for Tetricus II Caesar is C PIV ESV TETRICVS CAES but this one is not fully claer on the left so I can't say what it read.

I do not see either one as barbarous. The Tetricus I is pretty beat up but I think it probably was official. The barbarous coin in the bunch is the Claudius II Gothicus commemorative with Daggarjon's "sickly dragon, dead possum, weird alien salamander" reverse. It should be an eagle but I'll agree that the style is not very good. In this period, it is hard to draw a line between official and imitative examples but it makes little difference since both sell for about the same price. In fact, an imitative with wild style and perfect workmanship (full legends) should sell for more than the real thing.

Ah sorry Doug I thought that you meant the coins I had just posted, I will take another look at it and alter

    Tetricus II

Looking again, the legend is very clear (actually almost exceptional for these - the photo is just a little dark): C PIV ESV TETRICVS CAES. Sorry I came across this old post because someone added to it recently and I failed to note that the first part of old. That is one reason to start a new thread for new coins rather than retrieving one from the archives. I only recently joined CoinTalk as a way of learning about things later than the ancients I collect. There are a lot of old posts that I have never seen but might have commented upon had I been a member when they were new. I'll try to pay more attention to dates on posts in the future.
