I recently found a 1939 Doubled Monticello (yes, I've had it verified) in VF and I was wondering what a ballpark figure would be if I sold it on eBay?

can't post a pic. It's a VF and it's an OBVIOUS doubled Monticello, though. Good strong doubling.

Raw, with good pictures, assuming it really is VF and not otherwise cleaned, etc., I'd say you're looking at $50-$75.

Can't post a pic? If you're going to sell it on eBay, you'll need GOOD pics.

I am always hesitant to offer a conditional value without at least some visual observation of the coin in question. Now mike you know you can always search the heritage archives.

I didn't mind offering a value. It should be pretty obvious that the quality of my answer is based on the quality of the information I was given. Poor quality of information correlates to a poor answer.

I was assuming he meant the FS-022, not the FS-022.5, and I took him at his word that it was really in VF condition.

Everybody has their own idea what a doubled die looks like. I'd like to see yours.

    *sigh*

    rock,

I work in a coin shop. I know what the major variety doubled die reverse looks like. In fact, it was my boss at the shop that found it. We know what it is. The problem is that it's a variety and not really in the sheets.

I was hoping that with the breadth of collectors here that I could find someone who would know approximately what the market was for one before I listed it on eBay for my boss.

Forgive me Mike, but if you are employed in a coin shop, should you not be informed with available information as you requested? Surely your Owner would be able to give you more current FMV prices I would assume.

    coinman,

The shop owner was curious as to what it would fetch on eBay before he considered listing it.

There is no price for a raw VF DDR in the sheets, therefore nothing to base a reliable guess upon.

I asked here to see if anyone had a more educated guess. If you have an idea, please offer it, otherwise I could do without the lecture on what I should and shouldn't know.

    thanks jallen

I am thinking that we are looking right around as borgovan suggested right in the $50-70 range from what little I can find.

Okay Mike. I was not trying to be difficult. Now for me, it should not matter if the coin is raw. A VF Coin is a VF coin. As long as both the Seller and buyer agree the coin is authentic and meets the suggested seller grade and attribution. Yes, TPG authenticated specimens carry a premium, but so do Error type coins, regardless if it encapsulated or not. Remember "Buy the Coin, not the slab" ? Especially in the case of Errors. Even though you may find some published prices at say $75.00 does not adequately reflect what an Error collector would be willing to pay. I am certain you have done some past prices search through EBAY archives. Other considerations such as, how often the error, in this condition had been offered at auction. That can influence a price positively or negatively. I know it sounds like I am being difficult, I am truly not. I have not looked into archival information of this. Perhaps I might.

If he decides to ebay it, please let me know of the auction #.

    Thanks
