does look like a bit of doubling, but the coin is so beat up i can tell if it's more then just MD and the incuse lettering before liberty looks like a vise job
I think the OP is referring to what is to the right of the L along the rim. There are incused, backwards letters, and the imprint of a coins edge extending to below IGWT. Damaged after it left the mint, by someone sqeezing another coin onto the other. Not an error
I think a better picture of the obverse is needed so we can see if those letters are incused or in relief. It is likely from the damage but a better picture doesn’t hurt.
That coin is so beat up it looks like a cast copy. The rim is all I can see on the obverse and that was from a worn out tired die.
I know. I had a garage sale today and that was one of the quarters someone gave me. I got excited because I'm always looking for a error coin
Appears to have been a squeeze job, coin on each side and then squeezed in a vice, before it was damaged in circulation. Not an error, in my opinion. But please keep it so it doesn't turn up in circulation and then back here again.
Yep, vise job all the way. The only real mystery would be what type of other coin was involved. I can't make heads or tails out of it.
Welcome to CT. What leads you to believe this is silver? 1964 and before was silver. I think many here would bet against you.
