    Hi All

From our recently inherited collection of my father-in-law's coins, my husband and I have had some time and taken some photos.

Here is a shot of each side.

    Any help would be appreciated.

There are more from the pre-decimal era, but getting to understand the condition gradings is challenging, so the community's input on what this would be graded as would help us to understand the system.

Have the EXACT same coin, year, etc. if in better condition...plus a myriad other foreign silvers...use World Coin Price Guide...an online (and FREE) NGC/Krause publication. Like anything, it's a guide, but generally accepted/accurate to get you in the ballpark...plus quick and free. Yes, lists at $13 in VF, $25 in EF...if it were MS60 $100, and MS63 $150...shows comp is .925 silver plus other stats of size and wt, some limited history of who/what is on the coin(s). From main page, usually enter country name and year (example...Australia 1927)...takes you to another page from which to select the denomination and correct coin photos for that year/country. That process can be a bit info-sensitive for certain countries and territories and such, so you may have to play around with it to locate your coin.

I would be in the camp of a Fine grade with a value of $11, more or less. The band of the crown on the obverse is essentially worn smooth at mid-length, a condition which is less than very fine IMHO. Nonetheless, it’s a nice coin from your husband’s father’s collection. Please consider passing along his coins as a family legacy.

A second site that I also use as a second opinion along with the NGC /Krause site is Numista. BTW Numista lists this coin at $11.01 in Fine condition. This unusual value is a function of the exchange rate of foreign currencies to the USD.

    Welcome to CT!
